This October we celebrated 50 years of NMR in Edinburgh! From the first 60 MHz spectrometer, which arrived in the School of Chemistry in 1964, to our latest 500 MHz spectrometer, many spectrometers have come and gone.

This day was extra special for the NMR in Edinburgh as it also marked 50 years of service to the School of Chemistry by our first NMR spectroscopist, Dr Ian Sadler. Despite retiring in 2007, Ian has been periodically continuing with research as well as helping with 3rd/4th year NMR tutorials. A special and very entertaining talk was given by the head of the NMR facility, Dr Dusan Uhrin before Ian was presented with a Beevers model of his favourite molecule. To see the slides of the Dr Uhrin's talk click here. We truly thank Ian for all his hard work over the years and look forward to many more interactions with him.
